Lions Clubs Australia
What is required from me as a club member?
We are keenly aware that modern society puts increasing pressures on us and therefore we ask that members give only such time as they can afford.
The Club which currently has a membership of 26 regularly meets on the second and fourth Mondays of each month at Carlingford Bowling Club. Dinner meetings are usually 7 for 7.30 p.m. and last for about 2 to 2.5 hours.
The first meetings of the month are typically information meetings. Usually guest speakers are invited to provide new ideas and entertainment for members and their guests. The second meeting of the month is a combined dinner and board meeting where everyone is kept abreast of the clubs affairs by reports from various members.
At the present regular activities are:-
Sausage Sizzle for Bunnings, various locations, quarterly
Xmas raffle in 3 weeks before Christmas - rostered on 3 or 4 morning/ evening shifts
Ad hoc Activities - requires maybe 3 or 4 members once or twice a month
There is a roster set up and members swap times to those convenient
Emphasis is placed upon the social aspect of Club life with get togethers and dinners outside of the regular Club Meetings. There is our annual ‘ghost’ Melbourne Cup night held on the Monday before the famous race. Early in 2009 some of our members and partners together with Carlingford Dundas Lions Club members went on a coach trip for the week to Victoria and inland NSW and we are looking at similar trips for the future.
What does membership cost?
There is a joining fee, but this has been waived for new members this year.
The half yearly fees are $65.
Member’s dinners are between $15 and $20.
